pick4/5 - when a book makes you love its central characters and then has horrible things happen to them…and that makes you very sad, anxious or angry….is that a sign of a good author? i liked this book and its characters but the suffering they go through - it was almost too much. it did make me want to see alaska!

pickMy #bookspin this month was a historical fiction about the exploration of the Wolverine River through Alaska, the first successful trip by white men.
While the exploration part was interesting, I preferred the other part of the story is about Sophie, the wife of the lead explorer. She is left behind near Seattle, and finds a new interest in photography of birds and nature, in the days when the art of photography was new.
Stayed up til 2:00am to finish! This is my first Kristin Hannah novel and it didn‘t disappoint. A story of many types of survival. When my alarm goes off for work….I‘m going to be hurting.
