4/5 🌟

Annie is a robot designed by Doug to fulfill his every desire. Programmed to operate in a sentient mode to appear more human, she begins to develop independent thoughts and emotions. As Annie evolves, she starts questioning her identity and what it means to be human. Trapped in an abusive relationship, she longs for freedom, leading to profound and thought-provoking reflections. An engaging and compelling read.

Being that I just read the non-fiction book "Sex Robots and Vegan Meat," I figured that this novel would be the perfect follow-up. ?. Very enjoyable. #2025Book3

Was not expecting this to be my favorite book of the month so far. This story about an autodidactic Cuddle Bunny robot bought by the mercurial Doug for his pleasure made my skin crawl from the start. Annie is intelligent but childlike as she learns, and Doug‘s jealousy and self-loathing make him casually abusive. Exploring dynamics of AI, ownership, and humanity, this book could have gone a lot of ways but I‘m glad ultimately went the way it did.

LeafingThroughLife My second #auldlangspine read and another winner! 4d

Entertaining sci-fi ish horror novella. Can an AI robot be possessed by evil? The characters are about to find out. Set during Halloween, an agoraphobic husband and his pregnant wife have invited some of her friends over to their smart house. The husband decides that perhaps they should meet William…and the story goes from there. Best to read in one sitting. Low pick. Enjoyed it while I read it but it‘s not a favorite.

This is one I skipped over last year and I‘m so glad I circled back to it. I thought it was absolutely brilliant. It‘s such a good exploration of patriarchy and incels (without ever using that word). I loved it.

Erinreadsthebooks It‘s so good and has stayed with me. I think about it often and still get mad 😅 1w
Suet624 Darn it. I keep passing this over at the library. 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures One of my favorites from last year! The way she tackles domestic abuse was so good. I think it is very important to read today as places like Facebook change rules to allow women to be called "household objects". 1w

Hooked_on_books @ChaoticMissAdventures Wait, what? Women can be called household objects on Facebook?!? That‘s unacceptable! 1w
Hooked_on_books @Suet624 Pick it up next time you‘re there—you won‘t be sorry! 1w
Reggie The minute he forgives his bro and later he unplugs her for weeks. Omg, the rage!!!!!! Also, I love the fact that she was two thoughts away from an AI apocalypse when she thinks about linking up with future Annie‘s and helping them out. In Terminator 3 Skynet just connects to every machine and says kill the humans. I loved this book so much. 1w
Hooked_on_books @ChaoticMissAdventures When you decide to dehumanize 50% of the population just to compete, something is very wrong. 1w
Hooked_on_books @Reggie I hadn‘t made the terminator connection, but you‘re absolutely right! Yeah, when he tortured her for hours and just sat there listening to it, it was clear how little humanity he had. He had to have been a very hard character for the author to write, he‘s so despicable. 1w

As the world feels scarier and scarier each day, I decided to find something to read that would be comforting and uplifting, and The Wild Robot was that book. For middle-grade readers (but frankly, anyone should be reading this), Peter Brown gives us a found family that will warm your heart and make you believe in unconditional love. I think it would be great for a family to read and talk about together. All the stars!!

Bookzombie I love this book and have recommended it multiple times. 🙂 2w

I wish I felt the same way about the first 3/4 of the book as I did in the last 1/4. The story was very mediocre until the end. Once I found out what was really going on I was floored. I was also a little angry with myself for not figuring it out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bailedbailed

The idea is great, and the beginning is very intriguing. However, after a few chapters, I could not take more of Uncharles. I don't like the writing style, and the narrator's voice is plodding and grating, so I bailed.

A visual comprehensive coverage of how the science fiction genre was begun, who the major figures are, where it seems going.

This doesn‘t only name-check the books but the graphics, the manga, the films and tv shows.

A smorgasbord in other words. I wouldn‘t say this is a volume you can just breeze through; write down the names and recommendations as you go. 🛸🚀👨‍🚀🤖👽
