Sigh. We just can‘t move beyond this, can we?

TheBookHippie Nope. I reread this for the third time recently… man. So incredibly frustrating. 1mo

The author lays into us and tells a difficult truth. We are all complicit, but some may just be sociopathic. If people in power do the opposite of what is necessary for humanity‘s survival, there must be a special place reserved for them.

Sadly we‘ve become a fragmented world.

This book recounts an infuriating history from the 1970s to 1990s when politicians failed humanity and scientists failed to express our existential crisis in a meaningful, change inducing way. This was published in 2019 when politics in the US were at an all-time low for the environment. Our current president has made some advances to implement a “Green New Deal” through the IRA and BIL legislation. I hope these efforts start to make a difference.

Cosmos_Moon_River I don‘t mean the posts about this to be political, just honest. I can‘t help myself in following with a few quotes coming next. 2mo
Vansa @Cosmos_Moon this is actually not just political, it's about the only home we have and how our attitude towards it's destruction is 🤷🏾‍♀️ 2mo
Cosmos_Moon_River @Vansa 100% I agree 💚 It is about science and taking care of our home. Sadly so much of it has become tangled in politics and profit. I work in the sustainability field and so much of this breaks my heart every day to think of the world my children may live in. We are all responsible. 2mo

Is the earth a living, self-regulating organism?

This is one I had to take my time with. A bit technical at times, but an interesting read.

Seems like a good time to talk about this book again. This is my neighborhood this morning, and surrounding areas have seen historic flooding. This is just a little from Hurricane Debbie‘s rain bands. Yesterday morning: massive earthquake in Japan. 6 Tornadoes occurred in this area this week, and are happening in NY too. Call it a hoax all you want. A dying planet stops for no one. Remember: project 2025 calls to end all climate change⬇️

JenniferEgnor awareness, preparation. It calls for NOAA to be abolished, on page 664. These people are blinded by hate and greed. What we‘ve been seeing isn‘t even the icing on the cake for what‘s coming. There is no stopping it, fossil fuel industry be damned. Project 2025 Page 750: eliminate aid for families and businesses to rebuild after storms. (edited) 3mo
Cuilin I‘m sorry about your neighborhood but applaud bringing awareness to Project 2025 and the effects it will have on people and the planet. Yep hate and greed. 🤬 (edited) 3mo
dabbe So sorry your neighborhood was sorely hit. Like @Cuilin said, the more awareness of the #wtf Project 2025 the better. Stay safe! 🩶🖤🩶 3mo

#CoverLove Day 10: #Green. I inherited a fair number of climate-change-themed, ecojustice books from a friend who has left our university to teach at Indiana in the fall. Will miss him but grateful to have his books for safekeeping.

Fantastic listen. Should be required reading.
Ritchie is an Enviro Scientist and Data Analyst with a passion for writing. She combines her skills to deliver a clear eyed state of the climate that cuts through sensationalist headlines and sits in the facts with a fresh, hopeful perspective. She never sugar coats things, where the situation is bad she tells you just how bad it is, but she also shows how we can, and often are, making things better.

TheKidUpstairs Highly recommended. Especially if you, like me, can feel overwhelmed by the climate crisis. Yes, things are bad, and yes, they could get worse, but there is also real reason to hope that things can get better and work towards that end. Ritchie gives clear information on what actions can make the biggest impact, where to stress more, and where to perhaps stress a little less. 6mo
