“Christians, especially ministers, so often think they must always contribute something when they‘re in the company of others, that this is the one service they have to render. They forget that listening can be a greater service than speaking. Many people are looking for an ear that will listen. He who can no longer listen to his brother will soon be no longer listening to God either. This is the beginning of the death of the spiritual life.”

TheBookHippie Are you listening to bear witness, are you listening to respond, is your ego listening or your heart…. 5d
BarbaraJean @TheBookHippie YEP. Am I listening to understand? Or am I listening to shoehorn in my own opinion and push my own perspective? All questions I'm constantly asking myself as I train in spiritual “companioning.“ Real listening is SO needed right now. 5d
TheBookHippie @BarbaraJean it‘s part of training for mentoring at risk youth. We have to retrain every 2 years. 5d

It took longer to read than it should have, but it was well worth it. If you‘re looking for a guide to being a better church member, this is an excellent resource. John Owen backs everything up with scripture so you aren‘t left wondering whether the points are truly biblical. Highly recommend! This is part of my personal challenge to read more nonfiction this year. #2025nfbookchallenge

I absolutely loved this book. As someone who has been in the church, my whole life and gained much from it, I love the idea of slowing down and getting back to what really matters.

The title here is Pilgrims by M.R. Leonard, his literary debut. I‘d call it speculative scifi & when i describe it it sounds ludicrous.

Earth is under oppressive martial law awaiting a coming alien invasion. 🛸👽

The aliens land. The aliens are devout Catholics.🧐

Sounds like satire. It is not.

Our main character is a Latin teacher that discovers studying Classics in college was a crackerjack major after all. 🤯

Ruthiella Sounds good. Maybe I will nominate it for the next #LitsySciFiBookClub pick. 🚀 5mo

This is my nonfiction autumn book stack…unstacked! 🤣 I‘ve had these on my shelf for a few months. It‘s time to dig in. #autumnreads #nonfiction #Christianbooks I‘m also getting back into reading the daily Bible study periodical Tabletalk. Always good stuff in there!

Such a good book. It has been really timely for me right now. I was encouraged to think more about emotional growth and maturity as it is paired with my faith and leadership. We often ignore emotional maturity in the church and that is a mistake. This book laid out clear principles that lead through the process of pursuing health and growth.

jessjess I haven't read this one but our study group did EHS (the blue one) and it was eye-opening and thought provoking. 3y

I can't say pick nor can I say pan. I think it is necessary for people to read this style of book. I find that there are a few things I can agree with the authors on. Very few. The rest is terrible, eisegetic drivel. The authors blatantly disregard the Old Testament in establishing their beliefs. Everything we see today in "church" is pagan in origin. Seriously. Tithe? Pagan. Buildings? Pagan. This is the theology that damages.

BookDadGirlDad The authors talk of proof-texting. They decry the practice. Yet, this book is rife with it. They make the Messiah hypocritical and ignore what He practiced and taught. I read this to see what I hoped would be a light in the darkness of modern Christianity. It is not. It is not. 3y
