This was a silly bit of fun, I enjoyed it, though it felt a bit rushed through toward the end. Still... lots of classic mystery moments + the Great British Bake-Off setup (and gentle mockery of the format). A light pick!

I should really do a new #ComicsBingo card...

Wayne of Gotham: A Novel | Tracy Hickman

The fact that Gotham has seemingly seeped into reality has truly rocked my psyche.

Still love my Batman, but crazy Gotham has had me avoiding my favorite superhero for months now.

Truthfully, for a Batman fanatic, I don't really have that many Batman books/movies on my shelves...👀🤷🏽....yet when I do read/watch Batman, I soak up scenes like fuel. I delight that I can anticipate Bruce Wayne's/Batman's choices and moves beforehand...

👇🏼

AnnCrystal and when I'm surprised, I spend time analyzing why Bruce Wayne/Batman made his decisions as if I've been given a grand new insight into Bruce Wayne's character.

Bruce Wayne's Batman fuels my hope, rejuvenates my warrior spirit, highlights the importance of holding onto empathy, and so much more.

AnnCrystal This book first captured my interest just after I realized that the original Bruce Wayne is the only Batman I connect with...this seems to focus on the Wayne family mystery.

It also seemed like a safe choice, since it doesn't seem to focus on the usual foes of Gotham.

Yet I have still hesitated to read this book...

AnnCrystal Monday evening, I came into my bedroom and I discovered this book moved from my bookshelf to my bedside table...with a newly handcrafted Batman bookmark!

A letter was tuck inside this book, where my mom wrote the following:

“Our ancestors had their stories about our cultural heroes, stories we are both rediscovering but neither you or I were raised knowing from childhood. Not the stories about our American indigenous heroes.

AnnCrystal That's because these stories were lost somewhere along our family's line, lost because all our Ancestral stories and cultural ways became forbidden. Forbidden because they gave us power, courage, and hope.

Info did trickle down through the generations, but so much must be rediscovered and reconnected with.

You attached yourself to Batman since you were two years old. You adopted him before Zorro, before Zapata, before other obsessions.

AnnCrystal Our reality may feel like Gotham City, but do not allow yourself to avoid Gotham, because then you also avoid Gotham's hero.

You have allowed reality's villains to take away the hope that the Batman character ignites within in you.

Rediscover your Batman! Allow the magic held within the pages to seep into your fingertips and fuel you with the power, courage, and the hope that Batman so easily inspires for you.“

These words shook me to the core...I had thought avoiding Gotham City would calm some of my anxiety...yet avoiding Batman could only truly mean one thing for me...

...and there is no 🤬 way that I am ever going to give up on HOPE!

My mom left the heart for me to write whatever I wanted, “fuel your mind“ felt fitting 💖🦇🥰🦇💖.

This is a fun little series. Although a part of me considers it a Bad Machinery AU. Truly, the John Allison expanded universe is MCU-esque.

Incoming rant: questioning humanity when brother tells me that a customer says something along the lines of, “No wonder there was a shooting, when you can't fill a prescription on time“ JFC. Thankfully this particular beam of sunshine was banned. *Note, there's a 24 hour location literally 15 minutes away.It costs *so* little to be decent to one another, yet seems to be the biggest struggle for some.

Ruthiella Sorry. 😣 Every day my goal is to not be an a**hole to others. It‘s a low bar that some people unfortunately don‘t quite meet. 4w

vivastory @Ruthiella It seems like some people leave the house with the goal to treat others terribly...*sigh* 4w

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Too many people aren't held accountable for things they say or do. I swear some people stay up all night thinking of something to be mad about. 4w

Doctor Strange has been murdered, and in his absence the Earth is threatened by extradimensional demons and sorcerers, however, the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth-616 has prepared for this eventuality!

It's pretty good, if fairly standard, magical superheroing. Low pick 3.5 🪄

X-Men Epic Collection: Second Genesis | Bill Mantlo, Len Wein, Chris Claremont

X-men Epic collection Wounded Wolf is a pretty solid Claremont collection of the x-men and New Mutants doing what they do. Loki has a crush on storm. Wolverine is rescued by another little superpowered girl. TW for some pretty glaring fat-phobia though. Between the mojoverse, murder world, and Asgard the X-men don‘t do tons of defending a world that hates and fears them, but they do try on lots of outfits.

The book isn't a novelisation of the 2025 movie, but it was released at around the time it was in production, so I've borrowed a film poster image ?

We're visiting our son in Ely for his birthday, and popping into Toppings for a Christmas present for my great-niece, I made an impulse purchase of the tagged.
It's based on the comics version of the character - sword-and-sorcery in Conan the Cimmerian's Hyborian Age - rather than R. E. Howard's prose version - historical adventure in medieval France - and I'm prepared to allow it a degree of schlock latitude, so anything better than that will ⬇️

Bookwomble ... be a nice suprise 😊⚔️ 1mo

A fun follow-up to the first book. In the afterword, the author explains that he didn't want to repeat the story of brains over brawn, so he decide to explore when someone intelligent gets a little too cocky. Great illustrations and a meaningful story.
