Meet the Beast -- before there was Beauty Orasmyn is the prince of Persia and heir to the throne. His religion fills his heart and his mind, and he strives for the knowledge and leadership his father demonstrates. But on the day of the Feast of Sacrifices, Orasmyn makes a foolish choice that results in a fairy's wretched punishment: he is turned into a beast, a curse to be undone only by the love of a woman. Thus begins Orasmyn's journey through the exotic Middle East and sensuous France as he struggles to learn the way of the beast, while also preserving the mind of the man. This is the story of his search, not only for a woman courageous enough to love him, but also for his own redemption.

1. Beauty and the Beast. The tagged book was one of my favorite versions!
2. Toss up! Love Konsters Inc but I love the adult humor in Shrek. Also Shrek has the better soundtrack.
3. See @EclecticBookLover
4. MAYO!

Thank goodness for audio books or I wouldn't be this far. Spent the last 5 hours in the car driving back and forth to Mattoon so that I could install the kitchen cabinet doors. It's only a million degrees outside, so that was pleasant. #24in48.

LibrarianRyan I did finish listening to Beast right as I was pulling into town. I forgot how abruptly it ended. 7y

Switching over to an audiobook as I have to get a coat of varnish on these doors. #24in48

I read this book when it first came out. It is very good, and unique retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Since it was an Audiobooksync title this summer I am enjoying my free listen. However, no matter how many times I read or listen to the matting sequence, it just screams of beastiality. Everything thing is factual and the author did her research, and at this point the main character is a lion, it just always grates a little like sandpaper.

Smangela Yes! That's the one thing that just seemed too much for me with this one! 7y
LibrarianRyan @Smangela I thought it was bad reading it. It was worse hearing it. 7y

My first thought for #InLikeALionOutLikeALamb was Twilight. It was like a weird memory that popped out about Edward saying the lion fell in love with the lamb? Something like that. But then I realized lion and lamb could also be Beauty & The Beast! This retelling was strange... I can't really decide if I liked it or not to be honest. #MarchMadness

LibrarianRyan I felt that same way. The beastieality scene was a little much for me in what was supposed to be a kids book. 8y
Captivatedbybooks There's beastieality in the book?! @LibrarianRyan (edited) 8y
Smangela @LibrarianRyan yes, it really through me off too - like did not expect that. And I felt like the first half of the book was completely different than the second? @Captivatedbybooks yea it was very very weird lol 8y

LibrarianRyan @Captivatedbybooks yes, not erotic, but it's hard to describe. I was reading it to vet it for a kids book club, got to that point and was like NOPE. The beast is a lion and is in his lion form. It was just odd. 8y
LibrarianRyan @Captivatedbybooks I read this book when it came out. It was so odd, 10+ years later I can still see the scene in my head. 8y
Captivatedbybooks @LibrarianRyan @Smangela even if it isnt erotic the sole insinuation is definitely not a kid book 8y

Re telling of 'beauty and the beast' type story for YA. Read it to fill challenge categories.
