This was an excellent FBI serial killer thriller! The PAR Unit of the FBI (Patterns & Recognition) gets put on the case of a killer who is killing other serial killers. Yes, it‘s a bit like Dexter, if it were from the FBI‘s POV instead of Dexter‘s. I enjoyed the main character & thought the narrator did a great job. I‘m glad that this is the 1st of a series! Looking forward to the next one!

Last listen in January. This title kept appearing in my GR feed with great reviews so I was eager to dive in. Interesting characters and storyline, but ultimately it was just okay. 3 🌟

I didn‘t quite make the release date, but this first in a two-book minimum series was fun. Camden Gardner gets the lead on a case for PAR. It‘s a team of misfits and brainiacs, people who‘ve made big political missteps in the FBI, and are relegated to obscurity. Now though, they have a big case hunting a killer hunting serial killers. Their futures are all on the line. Lots of action, great characters, and some clever cat-and-mouse chases.

I was intrigued right away. While taking place in modern times, it had an old noir/crime show feel to it–those are some of my favorite genres–and the narration by Damron only contributed to that feeling. It was like I was listening to a radio crime drama. There is such a variety to the characters and each one adds their own flavor to the team and to the story. Many of the twists and turns caught me by surprise, keeping me guessing until the end.

McMahon created a wonderful character in FBI agent Gardner Camden. It‘s clear he is neurodivergent w/ a high IQ & trouble w/ social situations. He‘s part of a team of misfits called PAR (Patterns & Rec) who get assigned a case to find the killer murdering serial killers.

The case has Camden &his crew crossing the US in order to find &stop a killer who taunts them w/clues &phone calls. Each side character is well-developed &plays an integral role.
