Death and Life of Zebulon Finch, Volume Two: Empire Decayed
Death and Life of Zebulon Finch, Volume Two: Empire Decayed | Daniel Kraus
18 posts | 6 read | 34 to read
A murdered teen is resurrected to walk the earth for more than a century in the second and final book in the sweeping epic that Entertainment Weekly called utterly riveting. Zebulon Finch has faced more violence, lust, and heartbreak than any other seventeen-year-old in history. But nothing can prepare him for what is coming next. Half a century has passed since Zebulon Finch was gunned down and then inexplicably resurrected to experience a second life. Picking up his tale where he left off, Zebulon heads to Nazi Germany on a top-secret mission. From there he escapes to the shiny new world of the suburbs a tidy neighborhood hiding dark secrets. He will exchange the pains of this world for what he believes will be peace among the stars. He will march for social change all the way to Woodstock, go raving mad in the desert, and finally exit from humanity the only way he knows how. We first met Zebulon sealed in a tomb beneath the World Trade Center might he yet crawl from the rubble to discover a different America? Enthralling and gut-wrenching, The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch, Volume Two: Empire Decayed is the conclusion to the epic saga of one young man s journey down the long road to redemption."

Book #48 of my year and I‘m going to finish up this duology and see how it fares for Zebby. I love him so much, he‘s not a “good” guy but I mean he tries and that‘s good enough for me lol

Caffeinated_Reader Pg 43 can life please STOP getting in the way of my reading time? Zebby needs me 😆🤓 5y
Caffeinated_Reader 😭😭😭 I loved this duology. Zebulon Finch was the type of character that you start off liking because of his brutal honesty and refusal of anything normal. He quickly becomes a hero in his own right and following him throughout his death is heartbreakingly beautiful and eye opening. The ending is epic and those words will mean so much to me from here on out. I will recommend these books to everyone. 5y

The Zebulon Finch duology are my favorite under-the-radar books. Listening to Vol. 2 was one of my best audiobook experiences ever, and I have no one to discuss with.🤷🏻‍♀️

Love the style:

'Go ahead now. Set down this page. Do not worry, it is not abandonment. Another reader will pick it up before long, and somehow, through the shared enchantment of the human heart, it will still be you, dearest reader, and it will still be me.'

Those of you who have been Litsy friends with me since 2016 may be thinking ‘OMG here she goes again‘ but I can‘t pass up an opportunity to enthuse about these books. 😃

Fledgling gangster Zebulon Finch was murdered in 1896 when he was 17 years old, and resurrected shortly after. #clocks don‘t have a lot of meaning for Zebulon, as we follow him through the next 100+ years. I highly recommend experiencing these on audio. ❤️

Georgette73 Great books! I met the author at an author dinner two years ago. A super nice dude. 6y
JazzFeathers I know nothing about this series, but those cover are something! 6y
Peddler410 I bought book one — probably in 2016 after you introduced it to me — but I can‘t seem to get in the mood to read it. 🤷‍♀️ 6y

The book was so deep it was like nothing i'd ever seen before. It didn't sugar coat the worlds history.

I'm going with the literal interpretation... Zebulon Finch spent some time training at NASA, and even went to space. 🚀

I probably talk about these books too much, but gosh I love Zebulon.

StaceyKondla ❤❤❤ you are not alone - I fangirl these books, too 😊 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I have volume one sitting pretty on my shelf, need to read! 7y

Oh my-so sad this series is over. I highly recommend the audio version at least for Vol 2, if only for the mindf*ck that is the 'Curtain Call.' Kirby Heyborne's narration is brilliant.

❤️this: 'Go ahead now. Set down this page. Do not worry, it is not abandonment. Another reader will pick it up before long, and somehow, through the shared enchantment of the human heart, it will still be you, dearest reader, and it will still be me.'

My current audiobook.

I loved Volume 1, and so far Volume 2 is not disappointing me. 😃

Ashley31 I really loved the first one too! It was just so bizarre but I couldn't put it down. Got the second one in my stack but prob won't get to it until summer break. Looking forward to your review! 8y

I just finished this one and this book rocked my world as much as the first one did and now I'm actually kind of in mourning.
This book is graphic and gritty and will probably offend and horrify and I loved every glorious moment of it! Zebulon Finch is completely epic and a beautiful tribute to life.
I would highly recommend this duology to anyone who has loved Anne Rice's vampires or Mayfair Witches.
Beautiful work, Daniel Kraus!

CaitlinSiem My copy of Vol 1 just came in yesterday. I've been eyeing it for a while now and after reading your review I'm looking forward to reading them even more. 8y
