Ill-Fated Fortune
Ill-Fated Fortune: A Magical Fortune Cookie Novel | Jennifer J. Chow
9 posts | 6 read | 2 to read
The first in the heart-warming and deliciously mysterious Magical Fortune Cookie series from Lefty Award-nominee Jennifer J. Chow. Felicity Jin grew up literally hanging onto Moms apron strings in their magical bakery in the quaint town of Pixie, California. Her mothers enchanted baked goods, including puffy pineapple buns and creamy egg tarts, bring instant joy to all who consume them. Felicity has always been hesitant in the kitchen herself after many failed attempts, but a takeout meal gone wrong inspires her to craft some handmade fortune cookies. They become so popular that Felicity runs out of generic fortunes and starts making her own personalized predictions. When one customers ill-fated fortune results in his murder, Felicitys suspiciously specific fortune has the police focusing on her as the main culprit. Now Felicity must find a way to turn her luck around and get cleared from suspicion.

After a year without reading for pleasure, I‘m excited to jump back in. Here‘s my TBR for #hauntedshelf #skeletoncrew

I like cozy mysteries but I can never stand the MC. Unfortunately, this one was no different. Her family has magic and then she freaks out when her powers suddenly appears but then suddenly disappears. Like relax, you need to figure it out. It‘s a cozy mystery, so she has to solve the crime to stop being a suspect.

A promising start to a new cozy series that was about more than just solving a mystery but about finding your place in the world. Can‘t wait to spend more time with these characters!

Ill-Fated Fortune is more than a cozy mystery. It is a story of Lissa finding her place in her family.

Here‘s my review for a book I just finished reading. I‘m going to count this as my first book read for #bookspinbingo.

I decided to start this book. This is one of my Netgalley books. I think it‘s interesting and it seems like it‘s a book I can read really quickly but I don‘t know if this book is for me or not. I‘m not feeling compelled to continue reading this book. It feels kind of slow and I tend to like books that hook me from the very beginning. If a book doesn‘t hook me from the beginning then I don‘t want to keep reading it.

Here‘s my second page of Netgalley ARCs to read. The ARCs that are coming out in February will be read in February and then the ARC that comes out on March 4 will be read as well. I have a nonfiction book to read but it does not have an audiobook. I don‘t know if I‘m going to finish these ARCs. If I don‘t like them, I‘ll DNF but if I like them then I‘ll finish them. I‘ll just see what happens.

Finished this 1st in series, cozy mystery #ARC that publishes in Feb 2024. Felicity Jin has tried her hand at making the magical joy-infused bakery items she mother creates in their small-town bakery but the magical-baking gene seems to have passed her by until she finds she can make fortune cookies where the fortunes come true. Unfortunately, the body of a man she sold one to ⬇️

DebinHawaii …is discovered & the police suspect her of foul play. With the help of her bff & a magical rabbit, she‘s on the case. This gets a soft pick—I liked the characters & setting & culinary cozy vibe, but it had some tangents, slowed in the middle & I‘m not sure I buy the magical aspects. Still, I‘ll probably try the 2nd book & I have also been wanting to try the author‘s LA Night Market series below ⬇️ 11mo
