It's been a while since I read Monstress so it took me a while to remember where this one picked up from.

Volume eight opens up to the whole gang being on the prison planet, Monstra, which brings about Zinn's past and present to throw another interesting loop to this complexity and one I never could have seen coming.

I re-read Monstress from the beginning before starting vol. 8 and it is even better when you binge it. There is so much lore that it can be hard to follow in single-issue installments, but the series perfectly balances horror, fantasy, and sci-fi. It would make such an awesome animated series. Liu & Takeda are at the top of their game.

The story continues.

I didn‘t remember where we left our friends in the last volume, so was a little lost in the beginning as to where we were. But I wasn‘t the only one.

I liked the change of colors in this one.

Great writing and gorgeous, mesmerizing art—this comic just keeps getting better and better. Plus, talking cats! What‘s not to love? It‘s definitely one that requires your focus when reading, there is SO much going on, but it rewards that close read and in this volume, Maika‘s friends find themselves on a prison planet, desperately trying to help her survive. Can‘t wait to see where the story goes next!
