Let It Crow! Let It Crow! Let It Crow!
Let It Crow! Let It Crow! Let It Crow! | Donna Andrews
3 posts | 3 read
'Tis the season for sleuthing in Donna Andrews' cheery new addition to the New York Times bestselling Meg Langslow series. Meg has been roped into participating in a blacksmithing competition, a kind of Forged in Fire wannabe organized by a blacksmith friend. Meg originally turned down his invitation to participate, but when Faulk, her blacksmithing mentor, breaks his wrist the night before filming begins, Meg agrees to step in as his replacement to keep the project from failing. She's not thrilled that the filming will take place during December--Christmas is already a crazy time for her. At least she doesn't have to abandon Michael and their twin sons during the filming, since that's taking place on Ragnarsholm, the picturesque estate that her friend Ragnar, the retired heavy metal drummer, is turning into a Goth castle. So Meg joins the cast - -to the dismay of the woman who were looking forward to being the only woman blacksmith on the show, not to mention several old-school blacksmiths who think women have no place in the profession anyway. And if the show's producers were hoping for drama, they're in luck--the blacksmithing world is a small one, and some of the contestants arrived already laden with grudges and feuds. It's a high-stakes, cutthroat competition between people who wield large hammers and make swords and have forges full of fire at their disposal. What could possibly go wrong?

The Meg Langslow Christmas mysteries are always a lot of fun. This had less Christmas in it than usual, but I still liked it. Meg ends up participating in a Forged in Fire type show and has to solve first the assault of a competitor and then the murder of a different one. Before I learned more about crows, I might have been skeptical of some of the things they do in this book, but I‘ve read about their intelligence.

It' I believe that this is my 34th Meg Langslow mystery! Cozy mysteries are a decadent "filler" genre for me; sandwiched in between the nonfiction and literary fiction. I've enjoyed watching the characters. Develop, your personalities come out, and the seeing her boys grow up. This book had a particularly interesting topic with the Blades Of Glory reality show competition about blacksmithing weapons. I love it when I can learn(cont in comments)..

TheHeartlandBookFairy something new while reading, I only wish this story had continued throughout the competition instead of cutting short after the second round. Maybe ill get picked up in the next book? Anyway, this book was set in an interesting setting with the usual cast of characters & at times, tongue in cheek humor. 13mo

My absolute, hands down favourite cozy series and this book did not let me down. While in keeping with the tradition of zaniness, this was less madcap than most of the others and was such a fun and quick read; I am zipped right through this! The mystery was fun and engaging, plenty of red herrings, oodles of suspects, and it was nice to focus on some other side characters this time around.
