BEST SUMMER READS OF 2023: USA Today - The New York Post - Oprah Daily - Good Housekeeping - Brit + Co - The Good Trade"Witty and acerbic, Myers' debut is humorous and sharply written, as if Aubrey Plaza's April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation decided to write a sun-drenched novel about feminism, friendship, and archeology." --Booklist"Myers is adept at academic satire with a feminist bent . . . . Fresh, funny, intelligent, and deeply satisfying."--Kirkus (Starred Review)Over a summer in sun-drenched Greece, four incompatible women digging into the past may just find the answers to their futures. On a remote archeological site in Greece, the mythic home of the first Olympics, four women discover an unusual artifact. It's a piece of history that definitely shouldn't exist. And for the head archaeologist in charge, a relic himself, it means something's gone horribly wrong.Elise, Kara, Z and Patty all find themselves digging here together, but they couldn't be farther apart. Kara's a polished conservator calling off her wedding. Patty and her bowl cut are desperate for love. Millennial Z just got dumped and fired yet again. And Elise, their star excavator, is a lone wolf about to go rogue. To figure out what they're really digging for, and to topple the man who wants to hide their history, these dirt-crusted colleagues have to become what they've avoided for years--friends. If they put their own messes aside for one summer, they might just make the discovery of a lifetime.

I loved this! It was fun and light, without making me check my brain at the door. I was rooting for all four women and I enjoyed the atypical setting.

This had so much potential but it fell a little short for me. 4 women involved in a dig in Greece discover that their boss has been both selling artifacts and suppressing the truth about the ancient people who used the site. They eventually band together and take him down but it took too long to get to that point. I feel like this might have worked better with 3 MCs instead because we jumped around too much to really connect with any of them. I ⬇️

bookandbedandtea ⬆️ like how things finally came together: Charles' comeuppance was perfect and I liked the future each of the MCs was carving for herself at the end. A soft pick. 12mo
bookandbedandtea ⬆️ I did really enjoy the snarky writing. There were many one-liners and observations that I reread several times because they were so well phrased. I'll watch for more by this author. 12mo

I enjoyed this because of the characters but as a mystery it was completely average and easy to figure out. There is definitely a celebrate the female vibe which was nice to see. Overall, it was fun but low pick because of the simple plotting.

marleed For me it wasn‘t the story so much ch as the comedic writing. I laughed out loud and wished I could memorize some lines! 1y

This book came on my radar when I noticed it received all the stars from Jordys.book.club on my Instagram feed. It‘s a fun girl-power Greek archeological dig story. But honestly, it‘s the writing itself that had me most entertained. The narration is sharp-witted and snarky. Had I owned the print version, I‘d have dog-eared and highlighted piles of pages and lines in hopes to incorporate in my own lexicon at the appropriate times.

marleed @Cinfhen I can‘t wait to see your thoughts. The story is good but the writing is a lesson in comedic timing. What‘s interesting to me is that it‘s not the characters that were funny - it was more the narration. 1y
Cinfhen I‘m excited to give it a try!!!! 1y
