My last read of 2024! A romance between two former foster care kids, both pulling their resources together to help keep their younger siblings out of the system. Not sure I'll read the next book in the series, as the epilogue gives it away.
Look, the conceit is a bit of a stretch (I don‘t know much about the Canadian foster care system, but I feel like two young, single, first-time guardians would have a bit more oversight than the occasional phone check-in with their social workers?), but it's delightfully easy reading all the same. I went into this book with some hesitation. But after a push from a coworker, I‘m so glad that I read it! I loved it so much! I enjoy the grumpy/sunshine relationship along with the forced proximity. The dynamics and backgrounds of the characters were interesting, and I like how the author had beta readers for sensitivity and accuracy. I‘m looking forward to reading the next book in the series! #romance
I really enjoyed the CPS pieces, reminded me why I worked in that field for as long as I did. There was a lot of cheesiness and a little spice. Chloe went through so much as a child, it‘s amazing how strong, resilient, and wise she really is as an adult. Book #75 in 2024
This was a soft pick for me. I absolutely loved the premise of two people in the process of trying to gain custody of their younger siblings being paired together as roommates to help meet the income requirements for CPA. The characters and their backstories were great, but the chemistry felt a bit forced and slow at times. Great story, great representation, and I still love this author, I just wasn't as obsessed as I was with her last book.
