I don‘t think I‘ve ever read a book so achingly vulnerable before. The author is so honest about his personal failings, this dark period in his marriage, & the humility it took to stay together. When his wife asked for a divorce & reveals she‘s having an affair, he‘s beyond shocked. He shares this account not to shame her, but to reflect about how hard marriage is & how much work it takes. It sounds contradictory, but it‘s also so darkly funny.

Meh. Not for me. It was just okay. A little much for me in parts. I just didn‘t like the tone and a lot of it just didn‘t sit well with me for some reason. Not my fave.

Key goes in depth into the affair itself, his own failures as a husband, and his struggle with his faith, and he does this with introspection and humor. As someone who went through a devastating end to my first marriage, I appreciated seeing my own feelings reflected by the author. Modern marriage along with the temptations of the world is an increasingly difficult thing, and Key's acknowledgement of these issues is what resounded most with me.

A brutally honest account of couple trying to make their marriage survive when the wife has had an affair. This was really hard to stop listening to once I‘d started. There‘s real humour here and a lot of it self deprecating. But I think the book shows how 2 people really are both equally responsible for how marriages work, and also the massive effect trauma from our past has on our present. Loved it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Memoir of a man whose wife had an affair and the messy aftermath for them and their family. It‘s not my place to weigh in on their marriage, but this felt honest and like the author did try to find and own his part in how things went. Parts were humorous. There was a lot of religion that didn‘t resonate with me personally. I didn‘t particularly like either of them, but the book was okay. Soft pick.

fredthemoose Also, he has some internalized anti-fat bias the book could have done without, referring to himself as a walrus several times at a time when he‘d gained weight. 12mo

I have read many memoirs about divorce/affairs/separation/marriage from a woman‘s perspective. This one is interesting because it‘s written by a man and is very different in tone (sarcastic, jokey) from the many I‘ve read. The other big difference here is the way the author centers Christianity in his marriage and the book. And my oh my does he share the gory details of his relationship! At the very end, his wife wrote a chapter. Great audiobook!

I generally enjoy memoirs and this one was intriguing. The author is humorous, skeptical and a Christian so if you enjoy sarcasm and religion, you may enjoy this.

I thought this was great. Fresh, unique, honest, raw, and encouraging. This is the second book I‘ve read by the author. Another post said he comes off poorly—but I really liked him and his writing style. He is funny and jokes a lot. Which is great to have in a book about his wife having an affair and then staying married through the struggle.

I don‘t have any experience with this author, and based on this book I am glad. This guy is an effing douche. He spends the whole book explaining in grave detail why every problem he has ever had is the fault of his whore wife, proving in the process who the real problem is in the marriage. She appears to still be married to this man. My condolences, Lauren, I hope your next escape attempt succeeds. 🙏🏻

“Pop knew that the best way to rid yourself of trauma was to bequeath it to your children. He was a generous man.” I am just literally crying with laughing and I am only like a minute or two into the book! 😂😂😂
