A page-turning tale of marriage, scandal, and fame, perfect for readers of Taylor Jenkins Reid: The glitz and underlying darkness of Hollywood make for a setting as complex and compelling as Ramisetti's characters . . . rings with insightand with heart (Meena Harris, #1 New York Times bestselling author). Then, a month into their marriage, Julians first wifethe famous actress Evie Lockhartdies, and a tabloid reports a shocking stipulation in her will. A single film reel and $1,000,000 will be bequeathed to Julians latest child bride on one condition: Advika must divorce him first. This novel follows Advika, an aspiring screenwriter, and her whirlwind romance with Julian Zelding, an "A-list" producer. Their relationship takes a turn when Advika discovers that Julian is concealing his past and has a hidden agenda. An intriguing premise, but it fails to deliver on its potential because the novel lacks depth. This story could have been much more compelling. ⭐️⭐️.5/5 ❤️?

I didn‘t actually finish this one in time for our book club meeting to discuss it—& I went against advice to finish the last third of it this morning— I wish I had listened. Despite the enticing description, this one dragged & ultimately fell flat thanks to the unlikable characters. Advika‘s selfish & forcefully naive qualities may be addressed, but they don‘t feel resolved. I couldn‘t connect with her & couldn‘t understand why her friends stayed!

Pickpick

Not quite the Evelyn Hugo comp I had heard it was but enjoyable enough. I think Ramisetti rushed through the wives a little too quickly, I‘d have liked more there.

I don‘t think I liked this book. I could not stand Advika, she was so selfish (which is addressed). I also didn‘t know what genre this book wanted to be. It seemed like Advika was terrified for her life and that she was going to be harmed, but I didn‘t really feel that… also, yes her husband was super controlling but she also married someone she barely knew… so I didn‘t really feel bad for her 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️.

I liked pieces of this story - Advika and her Oakland group of Indian-American bffs navigating life, an aspiring screen writer awestruck by an older 5-time Oscar winning producer, curiosity about said producers previous marriages. I think I was supposed to believe intelligent Advika was not culpable entering into an absurd marriage. It was hard for me to route for her because really, what the hell did she expect from a transactional marriage.

I got my April #bookofthemonth and I meant to just read the first few pages of each but this one has sucked me in! I think the relaxed but interesting vibe it‘s giving me is just what I needed in between all my urban vampire novels 😅
