This book would be great for a social-emotional lesson. Students could read this book and then reflect on what makes them worry, doubt, or become frustrated.

When Things Aren't Going Right, Go Left by Marc Colagiovanni and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds is a great demonstration of using color to tell the story. Reynolds prioritized the cool colors for colors of sadness, doubt, or worry to demonstrate how the main character is feeling, but as the main character starts to turn his day around, Reynolds begins to use warm colors. At the end Reynolds uses yellow to show that everything is okay.

I think teachers love these books. You can linger on a page and do some social emotional learning. Reynolds usually provides easy printables and lesson ideas, and that eliminates the work. When I first saw this cover, I was worried it would be political, but it's not. Everyone can relax 😆
