I have no idea why this book was SUCH a slog, but God, it sure did take me forever to read it. The characters are all interesting enough, but the storylines don't mesh nearly soon enough, and the detail about Viking life was maybe a little overdone. If you're a Norse geek, this is for you, but casual readers beware. #yafantasy
#chunksterChallenge2023 @Amiable Coming in at 560 pages this “almost a chunkster” was an amazing and quick read- I could not put it down! Still left to read for me is a “chunkster mini” & “super chunkster.” I‘m determined. Might have to actually read “War & Peace!” 🤷🏼♀️📚
This was not at all what I expected. Every time I thought I knew where the plot was headed, the author surprised me. So many twists and turns. It follows two story lines that I immediately became invested in. I thought it was a great mix of history, folklore and magic. The world building transported me. Cannot wait for book 2- I think it‘s only going to be a duology and that upsets me so. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars.
Don‘t mind me while I sit here basking in the warm glow of this epic YA story based on Norse mythology, a book that definitely deserves to be on the “best of” lists where I first saw it. Excellent world building, fantastic characters, including some strong, vibrant & fiercely independent women, & an engrossing story that keeps you turning the pages. Absolutely loved it & am officially, quite impatiently, waiting for the next book. Excellent.
I ❤️early morning reading before the family is awake Tagged book has appeared on a number of “best YA of 2022” lists so I‘m hoping for an entertaining read.
Small but mighty book haul today. Tagged book is YA Norse Mythology—yes please! Even though I have no plans to write fiction, I enjoy reading “how to” books because I love what reading about craft and the world of writing/reading generally which explains How To Write a Mystery there in the middle. And The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is described as a western/romance/fantasy mashup and honestly, that just sounds like a lot of fun.
