The story behind this story is incredible. Most of the book deals with the journalist trying to publish the story and dealing with roadblocks along the way. It‘s good, but doesn‘t have the bite that other journalistic books had that I‘ve read recently.
This was a *fantastic* true crime thriller until 75% when it got downgraded to a good one. Still 💯 worth a read tho!
Pringle, a reporter for the LA Times, gets a tip about the head of the USC medical school in hotel room with an overdosed young girl. The majority is following this story plus the corruption in the Times newsroom that kept the story out of the paper for months…then he tacks on two more USC stories that don‘t really link well. ⬇️
Paul Pringle describes his time as a journalist working to bring to light a major scandal at USC in Los Angeles. It starts when a hotel employee tries to report to the school that the Dean of Medicine was present (and acting strangely) when a young woman overdosed in one of the hotel rooms. When his report goes unanswered, he turns to a journalist. It's clear why Pringle is a Pulitzer winning journalist.
