Jake has left the reservation for Weltimore Academy and entered a different world. Everyone there loves lacrosse, but no one understands it the way Jake does, as an Iroquois.

Pickpick

Like Bruchac's Eaglesong, this novel focuses on an Iroquois boy who is trying to adjust to a new school where he is the only Native American student. While it can be considered a sports book due to the importance of lacrosse to the plot, the story doesn't give play-by-plays, which I'm thankful for. The focus on lacrosse gives the story and protagonist a more defined personality than Eaglesong. #diversebooks #nativeamerican #ownvoices

#uniquefact back before I got winded walking from my bed to my fridge, I played lacrosse. As a nerdy loner kid in high school, I had few happy moments, but my sophomore year my lacrosse team won the state championship. It is still one of the best memories I have & 2 of my teammates ended up as my bridesmaids and we wore our state champ rings for pictures. #PlayLikeAGirl #bookphotochallenge #augustofbooks

"Darris liked the old stuff." Even worse, this book is from 2003.
