4/5 In this memoir, N. Jamiyla Chisholm tries to make sense of the time she spent inside the Community, a conservative Muslim sect. This book isn't about the sect itself, it's actually about the personal experience of Jamiyla and her mother inside the community: what led them there, the process of indoctrination, what made the mother stay in, what decided the mother to leave, life afterwards, etc.
Very interesting read overall.
Some sweetly decadent breakfast to accompany me in my reading this morning. Just began this book yesterday, read only 20 pages, but from them, I know it won't be a joyful ride, more like a hard-to-swallow testimony about how screwed-up our world can be...
