"[A] charming fish-out-of-water tale. . . . Fans of Rachel Hauck should take a look."--Publishers Weekly on All That Really Matters When the ever-cautious Val Locklier moves cross-country with her son for a secure job, everything she'd planned unravels within the first week. After Val reluctantly agrees to rent an apartment from her best friend's brother, an unexpected chance at an elite filmmakers' mentorship ignites fresh hope for a dream career. But as Val's community begins to expand, so do her insecurities, especially those heightened by her growing attraction to a certain friendly landlord. Pastor Miles McKenzie returns home from a short-term mission trip to discover that not only does he have an intriguing new tenant living upstairs, he's also been reassigned to a local ministry on life support. Disillusioned and restless, he distracts himself by throwing his energy into a host of new projects--not the least of which is pursuing Val--without stopping to consider the future. As Val struggles to stop hiding behind the camera and Miles wrestles with shattered expectations, they'll find that authentic love and sacrifice must go hand in hand.

Christian fiction, closed door romance. I was so excited for this title and it did not disappoint. As sub-characters in the first book, Val & Miles get their own story in All That It Takes. Could be read as a standalone but you get a broader picture reading it as a second.

It's a story of a second chance meeting, of redemption and determination. It's a story of being hurt by a church leader and forgiveness/understanding.

MaggieCarr It's seeing goals and dreams living out differently than expected. Val's son is the perfect third to this storyline, tying themes together and being the perfect comic relief then you didn't even know the reading was getting tense. 2y

Nicole Deese never fails to deliver a powerfully moving, spiritually challenging, emotionally riveting story that grips your heart and soul. Miles and Val have quickly become one of my favorite fictional couples. Brokenness, bitterness, restlessness, and need for purpose all collide when Miles and Val meet as landlord and tenant. This book is clearly in my top 20 reads for 2022.

I received the book from the publisher and opinions are my own.

cmastfalk Reading this now! I love Nicole‘s books. 3y
