Coronado: Stories | Dennis Lehane
3 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
Along with completely original material, this new collection is a compilation of the best of Dennis Lehane's previously published short fiction, including "Until Gwen," which was adapted for the stage in 2005 and appears in this book as the play Coronado. By turns suspenseful, surreal, romantic, and tragically comic, these powerful tales journey headlong into the heart of our national mythsand reveal that the truth awaiting us there is not what we would expect.

Pickpick

In his five short stories and one play Lehane shows his talent for crime fiction, not the usual whodunnits. There are tales of revenge, killers, sociopaths. The testosterone driven writing is not for me so it‘s only a low pick. I didn‘t bail because listening to Stanley Tucci narrate the stories made the depiction of tough manly men and lascivious women bearable.

Pickpick

Unsurprisingly, Lehane‘s short stories are every bit as good as his novels. Lehane has a talent for writing complex, flawed characters who find their way to doing bad, really bad, and, every once in a while [almost] good things. All the stories, and the play, were great, not a bad one among them. ‘Running out of Dog‘ and ‘Until Gwen‘ were favorites.
