“Smack dab in the middle of the mayhem there he was, whirling in circles at top speed scooping food out of industrial-sized vats and launching it in every direction”.

I enjoyed reading this book because it starts off like a story of a normal fifth grader until the robot changes that. Maya just wants to be a normal kid until her creation changes that. This book could be relatable to older students, sometimes things do not go they way we plan and we have to make the most of it.
Maya is in the fifth grade and meets a robot named Ralph. Maya creates a robot who starts a mess at the school science fair. Maya gets in trouble because the robot she created starts throwing food. Maya made this creation because her fifth grade year did not go the way she planned.
Maya learns about friendship and science when she is separated from her friends in fifth grade. Maya loves science and knowledge. Great fun.
This kids‘ book has plenty of science and technology, but even more heart! I was rooting for Maya as she has a rocky start to fifth grade, but when she finds a long lost homemade robot named Ralph, the story really takes off. This illustrated novel is a great choice for young readers interested in STEM who also love realistic stories about kids just like them!
