Caroline Lucas is an outsider, inside, fighting for parliamentary reform and for the interests of her constituents. She is a politician with a radical mission and a clear vision of how change can be achieved. From the NHS to corporate tax evasion, from climate change to immigration, Honourable Friends? tells the story of 5 years in Westminster and offers bold and practical suggestions for a fairer British political system. It is a unique book by a unique politician and activist.

Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP, on her first day in the Houses of Parliament.

"Only one thing is missing: somewhere to #work... new MPs are told that we will be allocated rooms in due course. For now we will have to squat in corridors or at cafe tables... This is not incompetence... Rooms are a currency or a perk"

She does a great job of looking at how ridiculous Westminster seems to mere mortals. (*cough* Big Ben *cough*) #AugustGrrrl

Weaponxgirl I know this is from ages ago but I just got this out of the library. I really like the Green Party and am always torn during elections as I want to vote for them but I always fear another Tory government. 5y
rockpools @Weaponxgirl I completely hear you. I think we‘d have much more chance of voting ‘for‘ rather than ‘against‘ with PR - I vote when I can, wd vote for their policies & have huge respect for CL. You‘ve got me thinking about who I‘ll vote for this time tho (we‘ve moved since the last GE) & I‘m going to have to go 100% tactical, fora party I‘ve never even considered before, to oust our odious, briefly suspended for use of the N-word, CON MP. 5y
Weaponxgirl I know! One reason I got this book out was to try and remember that there are the odd politicians I genuinely like both policy wise and as people. It makes me feel almost compromised when I end up tactical voting but I know that‘s not the way I should be looking at it right now. 5y

I was considering 'historical politics' (SPQR has lots) or novels based around politics (Pleasantville) but I came back to this, which is the only 'political political' book I own. Caroline Lucas is, I think, still the UK's only Green MP. She looks at Westminster as someone who can see the absurdities of the current system and how crucially things need to change. A really interesting not-too-heavy read. #augustphotochallenge #booksandpolitics
