The First Days (As the World Dies, Book One)
The First Days (As the World Dies, Book One) | Rhiannon Frater
13 posts | 16 read | 20 to read
Rhiannon Frater's As the World Dies trilogy is an internet sensation. The first two books, The First Days and Fighting to Survive, have won the Dead Letter Award for Best Novel from Mail Order Zombie. The First Days was named one of the Best Zombie Books of the Decade by the Harrisburg Book Examiner. AmericanHorrorBlog calls Rhiannon Frater "a writer to watch."The morning that the world ends, Katie is getting ready for court and housewife Jenni is taking care of her family. Less than two hours later, they are fleeing for their lives from a zombie horde. Thrown together by circumstance, Jenni and Katie become a powerful zombie-killing partnership, mowing down zombies as they rescue Jenni's stepson, Jason, from an infected campground. They find sanctuary in a tiny, roughly fortified Texas town. There Jenni and Katie find they are both attracted to Travis, leader of the survivors; and the refugees must slaughter people they know, who have returned in zombie form. Fast-paced and exciting, filled with characters who grab your heart, The First Days: As the World Dies is the beginning of a frightening trilogy.

Reading this with a couple of buddies for the Dewey 24 hour readathon. Hoping that I found another Zombie series that I like. We shall see.

TNbookworm I love this series! 4y
Harley_Quinn @TNbookworm I love finding new zombie series to read. Have you tried a series called Sundown by Courtney Konstantin or The Contagium series by Emily Goodwin? Both are good, I binged Sundown series back to back. 4y
TNbookworm @Harley_Quinn no I haven't. Thanks for the recommendation! Have you read the Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry? They are excellent! 4y

Pickpick

"There was so little left of him. Lloyd always was a big eater..."

I picked up this gem back in '11, when the local library had it displayed up front. The 1st chapter is titled, Little Fingers. I'll let you wonder what that means, but it's an opening chapter I'll never forget.
The 1st book in the As the World Dies series is a wild ride through TX as Katie and Jenni fight to save Jenni's oldest son and find safety. Somewhere. Anywhere.

TNbookworm I love this series so much! 4y

Today's #riotgrams prompt is friendship books. I love the friendship between Katie and Jenni in these books. Trying to survive a zombie apocalypse is good way to become best friends with a stranger. Also, I really need to reread these soon.

If anyone is already planning their fall tbrs, then I highly suggest this zombie trilogy. I read it back in undergrad and think I'm going to reread them this year. There a a super diverse cast both in ethnicity and sexuality. The suspense is so good. And the bad guys are ones that really get your blood boiling. #scaryreads

VanChocStrawberry Is it suuuuper scary or gory? I've never read horror except for Firestarter back in middle school. 7y
annkuch13 @VanChocStrawberry if I'm remembering correctly it can get a little gory. A lot of the scariness is with how humans become monsters themselves for the sake of survival. 7y
VanChocStrawberry @annkuch13 that I can handle. Have you read the Ashfall trilogy? It's YA, but well written and deals with those same themes. 7y
annkuch13 @VanChocStrawberry I haven't. I'll have to check it out! 7y

Mehso-so

Today (January 17, 2017) I finished The First Days by Rhiannon Frater. It was good, but I will not be reading any more of this series. I just did not fall in love with either of the protagonists. :-(

I gave this book 3.5-good stars. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/673252674

Part of my January TBR - I'm only missing the e-books that I want to read. I always pick way too many books but it is fun to try and read them all! What should I read first?

Well-ReadNeck Based on title alone: the First Days 🤣 8y
Samantha.1020 @Well-ReadNeck I was actually thinking about reading this one first! Just to get my zombie fix in :) 8y

For #AllHallowsRead, a scary book(s) that deserves more attention is the As the World Dies series! These are my all time favorite zombie books (and I've read a lot of zombie books). Amazing lady leads. Diverse cast. So many emotions. I think it may be time for a reread!
