pickI just recently got back into audiobooks and found this one on my audible account-don‘t remember ordering it, but glad it was there. Set in the years leading up to, during and after WWII, mostly in the Pacific theatre, which is rare in most of the WWII books I have read previously. Seeing the war from the perspective of a female nurse was another nice bonus. Was a great listen.
bailedDNF-ing just under halfway through. It‘s a topic I like, and a topic too often ignored in WWII fiction, but I feel like this is too light a treatment. I may come back to it someday, but today is not that day.
Late night reading with a snack. It‘s been a busy few days, so I have to relax when I can. And if that happens to be at 11 pm with historical fiction and ham & cheese hot pockets, so be it!
pickThis was a great book! There's nothing better than enjoying a great book, but learning a little history at the same time. I never learned about this part of history before!
The story is about Margie, a Red Cross nurse in the Philippines during WW2. She goes through heartbreak and hard circumstances. If you enjoy reading emotional historical fiction, this is for you.
I started this latest audiobook yesterday. I figured I'd stick with my WW2 theme for another book. I'm liking it so far. The narrator is great, too. I'm interested to see how the story unfolds, since the nurses are stationed in Manila.
pickI had no idea I was going to be a lover of historical novels until I read this one for a book club. Such heartbreaking stories, just a few of thousands really, but stories that deserve and need to be told and heard. 5 stars.
pickThis was a Kindle Unlimited book that came with the Audible audio & Whispersnyc so it became my #audiosouping choice for the last few Sundays. Probably between a pick & so-so for me. I liked the WWII experience from a nurse in a Japanese POW camp in the Philippines & life after war, but it dragged a bit & I felt like the foreshadowing of key plot points was too much--I knew every major event before it happened. But interesting & well-researched.
Roadtrip😀It's a rainy and pretty blustery day here but i'm taking a jaunt to Kailua which from my house is about a 40 minute or so drive. Hitting up the local bookstore for some gifts & stopping by the natural foods store & a few other places. I have Starbucks & this WWII historical fiction audiobook for the drive.
My current #audiosouping read-I got this one from Kindle Unlimited & it came with the Whispersync audiobook too which is nice. I'm only about 4 chapters in, so we'll see. Today's soup is a tossed together red lentil concoction with Middle Eastern spices that I hope knocks any 'yucks' out of me. I have felt on the verge of something all weekend-headache, sore throat, aches...😬The finished soup will be on the blog later & I'm sure here as well.😆
