ER Nurses
ER Nurses: True stories from the frontline | James Patterson
7 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Around the clock, ER nurses dedicate their lives to helping us when we need it most. This book puts names and faces to these men and women who are there for us whenever we need them, who fight for our lives and never give up. Through numerous interviews with frontline healthcare staff, James Patterson and Matt Eversmann, acclaimed and bestselling co-authors of Walk in My Combat Boots, reveal why nurses do what they do.

This was a really intense, quick read. Each story is different, and you never know what‘s coming next. Nurses and other medical staff are often unappreciated. Their jobs are really hard and require tons of emotional labor. These stories are horrific, sad, ridiculous at times, and even funny. I can‘t tell you how many times I literally gasped out loud at some of the things I read. This book makes you appreciate your health, abled-body, and ⬇️

I wish people who came into the ER would understand that if we don‘t get to you right away, it means you‘re stable, that there‘s someone who is sicker than you. If you‘re waiting, that‘s a good thing. It‘s when we all rush in and jump on you that you should worry. Although nurses are busy, we‘re doing the best we can—always trying to do more with less. Our hearts hurt for the people we can‘t get to right away and ache for the ones we ⬇️

JenniferEgnor @Bklover oh these are not my words, this is from one of the nurses in the book. I‘m not a nurse. But I feel like these words are really important. So many people don‘t realize how lucky they are! I‘ve been on the other side of that in the ER. Thanks to a team acting quickly and working together, I‘m alive today! 2mo
Bklover I‘m glad you‘re alive, too!! (Just saw that it was a quote!) (edited) 2mo

I just started this book and it‘s good so far. I like that it‘s broken down into different nurses stories, it‘s actually helping with my depression because I don‘t have to read the entire book, I can read one chapter at a time and have the whole story for that person, so I can read a little when I feel up to it and not be upset that my depression is making it hard to even read.

First book of 2022 and this was an excellent one to start with. As a nurse of almost 17 years and 12 of those being in the Er, this book definitely hit home for me. I laughed, I cried, and related so much to others who shared their stories. For anyone that is a nurse or in the healthcare profession this is a must read. It allows others to see what truly goes on beyond the public eye and why we love and are passionate for what we do👩🏼‍⚕️😷🏥🩺⚕️
