Mango, Mambo, and Murder has laid a great foundation for this series. I feel invested in Miriam and Manny and want to see how their lives in Coral Shores develop and grow.

Finished tonight for #DiverseCozy The first book in a foodie cozy series, I liked it overall. The MC is a Cuban-American anthropologist & cook who has just moved back to a wealthy suburb in Miami with her husband & young son. When 2 murders happen & her best friend is the chief suspect, Miriam is on the case. I liked the MC but would have preferred it if she communicated better with her ⬇️
I finished yesterday. There are a lot of names in these books, AOC, M. Obama.Environmental issues.Racism.This has an interesting murder mystery. However, Miriam being asked to help by a police officer is unrealistic and the sluething wasn't great. There is also lots of mother-in-law hating daughter-in-law.It wasn't as exciting as other series I've read.I'm still going to read the next two books. However, I hope it gets better or I won't continue.
Entertaining, easy read. Unlike many cozy mysteries, the main character is married and has a small child.
I mostly liked our mc, so I‘ll probably read a second book in this series. It had issues — too much about Miriam‘s family life that was completely unrelated to the story and not enough mystery. Several Goodreads reviewers were bothered by the Spanish conversations — I wasn‘t; they were mostly with her son and unrelated to the mystery. Started The Dark Hours. We went to Bellingrath Gardens for the last day of the lights. Many were new. #audiowalk
I want to like this book, but the author is making it difficult. I realize detail establishes setting and character, but I am 75% through this book and know more about the mc‘s child‘s bathroom and eating habits, her marital issues, and her awful mother-in-law than I do about the murders. In fact, we didn‘t even get into the mc‘s involvement in the case until at least 50% into the book. It was a beautiful, if chilly, day today. #audiowalk
Blurbs for my debut #cozymystery are coming in and I‘m bowled over by them. Ty to author Ellen Byron aka Maria DiRico for this lovely blurb!
