The Two-Faced Queen
The Two-Faced Queen | Nick Martell
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
The Hollows is gripped in unrest and on the brink of civil war as an insurgency of anarchists rise, and brother and sister vie for the throne in the second novel in the critically hailed Legacy of the Mercenary King series which Brandon Sanderson called excellent. Michael Kingman thought he was going to die by the executioners axe, forever labeled as a traitor. Still alive, and under the protection of the Orbis Mercenary company, Michael and his family and friends are deeply involved in the seemingly rival conspiracies that are tearing The Hollows apart. With the death of the King, both the Corrupt Prince and his sister Serena are vying for the throne, while the Rebel Emperor is spreading lies amongst the people, and all of them want Michael dead. This is a story of betrayal, murder, and rebellion, and in this direct sequel to the debut novel The Kingdom of Liars, also some hope for justice. For readers who love the intrigue and widening scope of epic fantasy like Sandersons Mistborn and Weeks The Black Prism, you will find your next must-read fantasy series.

I was thrilled when I saw there was a sequel to the Kingdom of Liars (but of course, the third one isn‘t even out yet— why do I keep doing this?)! Finished it waaay too quickly. I did like the first one better, naturally, but this one tied many of the strings up that were left before. I‘m here for the “catastrophic love” conundrum and the extra magic that shows up. 8/10

Hitting US stores tomorrow! but I had an ARC & while I struggled with the beginning & the middle the end was captivating. This is reminiscent of the first book as well. The one thing that bothered me most was every persons inability to answer Michaels questions, they are the reason he does stupid stuff. This is the sequel to The Kingdom of Liars but felt like a stand-alone due to the mystery style plot line & little connections to the first book.

Sweetkokoro It‘s either a book you will power through or will drop. It hovers around a 3.5-4 star for me but I‘m really invested in the moon plot line so I‘ll be sticking it out for the 3rd book (edited) 4y
