I Am a Hero Omnibus, Volume 1
I Am a Hero Omnibus, Volume 1 | Kengo Hanazawa, Kengo Hanzawa
4 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
The zombie apocalypse has never been more surreal! A mentally unhinged manga artist witnesses the beginning of a zombie outbreak in Tokyo, and he's certain of only two things: he's destined to be the city's hero, and he possesses something very rare in Japan--an actual firearm! Kengo Hanazawa's award-winning series comes to Dark Horse, and this realistically-drawn international bestseller takes us from initial small battles for survival to a huge, body-horror epidemic that threatens all of humanity! These special omnibus volumes will collect two of the original Japanese books into each Dark Horse edition and include all of the color pages. "Probably the greatest zombie manga ever." --Jason Thompson (Manga: The Complete Guide)

Pickpick

I was expecting I Am a Hero to be a Japanese Walking Dead, but I'm glad to see it's definitely more of a horror manga with zombies.

Hideo appears to be a paranoid schizophrenic who works as an assistant manga creator, but is otherwise a recluse. Which goes a long way to explaining how he escapes being infected.

Fans of horror comics will likely love this. It's gross, it's wild, it's so much fun to read.

I haven't even gotten to the zombies yet and I'm afascinated by this series. Hideo appears to be a paranoid schizophrenic and his girlfriend an abusive drunk. It goes a lot into explaining why he stays so reclusive and why he owns a gun in Japan. So interesting!
