Rafael, king of the wererats, must fight to the death to defend his crown. He wants Anita Blake, one of his closest allies, with him as he faces an opponent unlike any hes faced before. He will ask Anita to risk everything to be at his side. But some of the wererats fear that Rafael depends too much on Anita and her ties to the vampires. They believe that there is only room in America for one supernatural king, and Rafael will turn them into nothing more than food for the bloodsuckers. Among his enemies, a new challenger has arisen who is younger, hungrier, and has dark secrets that could destroy both the wererats and the vampires. Rafael will go into the magical heart of his people to find the power and violence that he needs to save them all, or die trying.

A good look into the Rodere of St.Louis which I enjoyed. I felt like this should have been a novella but I know it needed to be a full novel. Looking forward to the next instalment🤓📚

DieAReader Disappointed that we still haven‘t gotten to Anita‘s wedding to Jean-Claude or Micah & Nathanial‘s🙄🤔 4mo

I‘ve seen some people refer to this a a novella. It is not, but it is TINY compared to the other Anita Blake‘s. In under 250 pages we got some solid building to the wererat and hyena cultures, some blast from the past friends and foes and a solid amount of action and creative violence.

Much less wasted time, no arguing inconsequential things for endless chapters, minimal wedding talk, I don‘t even think she talked about her boobs. Editing = wow

📖 Current Read is “Rafael” by LKH
📚⛔️ Running 🏃‍♀️ and cooking 🧑‍🍳
🌟 I now realize that the 3 physical books I read in July was all were set in the 1990s which I find to be an odd coincidence as 2 were recent releases (“Survive the Night” & “Southern Book Club..”). “Wild” was my favorite of the month, I would consider it a 5 star read, which I did not expect and had entirely added to my July reads as filler.

I have done nothing but move this book room to room in the past 3 days between scrolling the socials and watching Graceland. This is my accountability post, I‘m going to try to make some headway!

DarkMina I am doing the same thing with A Deadly Education. 3y

1. Anita Blake Vampire Hunter where I have read 27/28 books (the tagged book is the one I haven‘t read yet)
2. Not intentionally.
3. I like series that have switching protagonists, really shows the authors insight into where the other characters are coming from when done well. But I don‘t read a lot of series that do that. So either.

May 2021 - reread and weirdly super close to the initial reading and didn‘t like it as much as the first but it might also be binge fatigue

Feb 21 - urban fantasy / endless series / I don‘t care what anyone thinks I like this genre- omg the therapy talk is less and the story existed... finally!! First time in many books (years) that I didn‘t hate it or feel it was a total waste of time. There is hope and wondering where it‘s going to go from here

Bk6 of February is done! And it wasn‘t all smut! It was definitely still there, plus her annoying habit of repeating info that, if you‘re still reading her, you know by now. Which is why it‘s a so-so for me, only the fact it had more about the wererats kingdom saved it from being a pan. #PickYourPoison #ShapeShiftingCharacter #Pageathon #FinishingTheSeries2021 #SeriesRead2021 #PennyPerPage #258cents #StackingTheSeries #BookishBingo #Under280pgs

This novella turned up on my doorstep today so of course I had to drop what I was reading to pick it up! I‘m hopeful so far it‘s not all smut, but we shall see. I keep buying every book she releases only to be disappointed once again, vow never to buy another then cave the minute I see it on the Coming Soon lists. What can I say, I‘m an eternal optimist!

MidnightBookGirl Sometimes it's hard to quit an author. Sometimes it pays off though. I hated a bunch of the Stephanie Plum books, but then the author seemed to get the memo and even poked fun of herself a little, and they got better. I did quit the Anita Blake novels a long time ago though, but I also do read a lot of urban fantasy. 4y
