This was a quirky book about an 11 year old boy who is left to his own devices more than would currently be considered okay. He has adventures, deals with bullying, meets some interesting characters and learns to love and appreciate his father more. It was an engaging and enjoyable read. I really wish the main character didn't keep referring to his father's girlfriend as a slut - I'm hoping that was a translation thing.
I'm reading this middle readers Henning Mankell book. It's not quite Wallander but it has charm!
Despite the blurb at the back of the book, this is not a "magical mystery." It is instead the story of an eleven-year-old boy who lives too much inside his head, concocting wild stories, and must learn instead to be more connected with the world around him. In short, this is a book about growing up and learning that grown ups can be there for you.

I agree with Joel, the eleven-year-old narrator. I hate it when someone answers a question with a question! (Although I admit to doing it myself. I am a teacher, after all 🤓)
