pickIt‘s hard to review this book as it was so different from most other things I read. The setting, the characters, the breaking of the 4th wall… I can‘t say I didn‘t like it. I can‘t say I was blown away either. But it‘s definitely a book I will remember for some time.
pickA fun romp of a mystery! A young sex worker named Maddy is murdered, her grandmother, known by Hep calls upon her friend to help solve the case. Her friend is the narrator of our story along with a few other diverse band of colorful characters put their amateur detective selves to work trying to solve the case. It takes our narrator on a wild and dangerous ride! A quick paced, funny, edgy, mystery with some dark subject matter. #canlit

pickThis snarky, grammar-conscious, bisexual social worker / amateur detective captured my imagination! Her narrative is very meta and clever. Side characters were wonderful, including a former Hong Kong gymnastics star ended up homeless and a lesbian sex worker. The mystery was fun too! Caveats: the mystery is based around the death of a sex worker; too positive portrayal of cops; 2 unchallenged cis characters who use the t-slur for trans women.
