Friendly Day
Friendly Day | Charles Fuge, Mij Kelly
1 post | 1 read
A clever mouse tricks a hungry cat into sparing his life by inventing the story of Friendly Day, the one day of the year when animals must share and be kind to each other, a claim that makes the cat envision a rhino knitting mittens for kittens and a shark playing a friendly game of chess with a school of fish. Original.

I can't wait to use this for storytime. Normally, I don't care for rhyming text because I get stuck in a vocal rut, but this is so ding-dang charming! The illustrations are large and lush (scar details on the whale! muzzle fuzz on the moose!). Plus, memorable animal expressions. I especially love that all the joy is tempered with moments of tears and regret. Great for readers who love a slew of animals or unironic optimism. #dw2020reads #kidslit
