This is probably the most beautiful book I own. Zarafa the giraffe caused such a sensation in Napoleonic France, she was painted by numerous artists. So the plates in this book are to die for. Favourite non fiction cover. #7days7covers #covercrush

This book is a treat.

In 1826 the Ottoman Viceroy of Egypt decided to send a giraffe to the French King Charles X. The giraffe, called Zarafa, traveled over 3,500 miles by river before walking more than 500 miles to Paris. She was the first living giraffe seen in Europe in over 300 years.

This book is for you if you like quirky historical tales.
