Anything Resembling Love
Anything Resembling Love | S. Qiouyi Lu
3 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
All her life Sylvia has made sure to never let anyone see the centipedes that emerge from her body. It’s gross and impolite. Until finally she reaches her breaking point. This is a speculative exploration of rape culture and hiding pain in favor of others’ pleasure.

A very uncomfortable but valuable read. It causes visceral disgust—a magical realism setting where unwanted touches cause insects to emerge from your body. Double yuck.

Basically, through the fantastical lens, the story analyzes how girls are socialized to swallow their discomfort, and what problems this may cause. I don't think I could stand reading more of this—again, so visceral—but thankfully it's very short, so a pick.

This is a really tough read, but beautifully done. TW for sexual assault and creepy crawly bugs.
