It is 1601 in the old city of Prague and the Hapsburg emperor Rudolph II, in possession of every luxury known to man, is unhappy. All that will ease him is the secret of eternal life, and as he sends his courtiers to England to bring back the alchemists John Dee and Edward Kelley, he unleashes a storm among his foes - and a sea of troubles for the inhabitants of the Jewish ghetto, where stories of the mysterious golem abound and young Rochel, an outsider among outsiders, is striving to find love beyond the marriage that has been arranged for her.

#TBRtemptation post 2! A story of magical realism set in 1601 Prague. The Jewish community's safety is threatened, and a rabbi creates a golem to protect them over the next 40 days. Emperor Rudolph II is looking for an elixir of immortality, and the whole city is on edge. The bastard seamstress and wife of a tailor, Rochel, falls in love with Yossel, the golem. Reviewers loved the real historical details employed. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Mehso-so

Picked this book up for 75 cents at McKay's. It was an interesting mix of historical fiction, folklore, and fantasy. I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away.

MrBook Hmmm, wondering if I should add it. My TBR is massive already, 8y
