This Won't End Well
This Won't End Well | Camille Pagán
An ingeniously witty novel about the risks--and rewards--of opening your life to new people by Amazon Charts bestselling author Camille Pagán. No new people: that's Annie Mercer's vow. It's bad enough that her boss sabotaged her chemistry career and her best friend tried to cure her with crystals. But after her fiancé, Jon, asks for space while he's gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too--from everyone. Yet when Harper moves in next door, Annie can't help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman. And if keeping Harper safe requires teaming up with Mo, a maddeningly optimistic amateur detective, who is she to mind her own business? Soon Annie has let not one but two new people into her life. Then Jon reappears--and he wants her to join him in France. She's pretty sure letting anyone get close won't end well. So she must decide: Is another shot at happiness worth the risk?

Meh. Really cheesy chick-lit. Very predictable.

Camille PagaÌn has become a "go-to" author for me, so I was excited to listen to her newest novel, This Won't End Well. As always, the story is engaging, the protagonist is appealingly flawed, and narrator Amy McFadden is excellent. While it's not my favorite of PagaÌn's, I would definitely recommend it.â €

Annie Mercer is at a transition point in her life, though not by choice. After her loathsome boss harassed her and Annie reacted, ⬇ï¸

UnabridgedPod she has to leave the chemistry job she loves. Then, her fiance Jon takes off on a trip to France--not only does he not invite Annie to come along, but he also tells her that he's cutting off all contact because he needs some alone time. Annie decides the best response is to self isolate: she starts a new cleaning business and does her best to avoid meeting anyone . . . â¬‡ï¸ 4y

Annie's voice is strong, and I appreciated watching her work through the challenges she's facing. This book gave me exactly what I expected and needed at the moment. ⬇ï¸

UnabridgedPod So, while PagaÌn's books are, at this point, following a bit of a formula, they're also satisfying, well written, and enjoyable.

Freespirit My first thought was Agatha Christie...they follow a formulae...are brilliant and so readable!! (edited) 4y
UnabridgedPod @Freespirit That‘s a perfect rec (and I‘ve read Christie, but it‘s been a looong time!). 4y

âï¸âï¸âï¸/5 this was not my favorite of Camille Pagán‘s. It fell a little short. I didn‘t love the way the main character was being treated by her fiancé.

This was a thoroughly delightful #audiobook. I listened while doing paperwork this week. The characters are relatable and have some moments of self-awareness that made me so happy! Highly recommend!

Sometimes I just need a “feel good“ kind of book just to counteract all the crap that‘s going on in the world today. This book definitely fit the bill.

Reviewsbylola What a gorgeous cover. And I can relate. I‘m finding it really hard to concentrate on books right now. 5y
suvata @Reviewsbylola I am having the opposite problem. I‘m finding it very hard to concentrate on reality right now. The good thing is that I‘m going through my TBR like wildfire. 5y
Tracey3 I really enjoyed “I‘m fine and Neither are You.†I‘ve also been struggling to read. 5y
Reviewsbylola I want to be like you!! I thought I would read so much during this quarantine. 😭 5y
