Becoming Brianna
Becoming Brianna | Terri Libenson
6 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
National bestselling author Terri Libenson returns with another endearing, relatable story of friendship and finding confidence. Perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Jennifer L. Holm. Middle school is full of challenges. Everyone knows how much brainy Bri likes the spotlight (not). So why did she ever agree to something that forces her to learn a new language, give a speech, help organize a party, and juggle drama at school and home?! As the big event inches closer, Bri wonders if it's all worth it. . . . Told in alternating past and present chapters, Bri's heartwarming story unfolds over the eight months leading up to her bat mitzvah--as well as over the course of the big day itself.

4 ⭐ One of the reasons that I like these books is that even though they‘re a series, they can all be read independently. Each book takes place at approximately the same time and a reader can see each of the kids the important events in their lives. In this case, Brianna has been asked by her mother to be bat-mitzvah. While she‘s dreading it, she‘s also finding out more about herself, and why she likes her family religion.

LibrarianRyan And while this book is about a bat mitzvah, it is not a religious book. It is just like the other books, a look at the life of a middle schooler, and all their thoughts and feelings. It‘s a mix of graphic, novel and prose and just all together works well. I was very interested in Brianna‘s story and can‘t wait to read the next one. 11mo

Brianna‘s mom wants her to become a Bat Mitzvah but shy, questioning Brianna is not so sure. As she experiences friend troubles, Hebrew troubles, speech-writing troubles, and anxiety, will she finally make it to her big day? This was a great addition to this middle grade graphic novel series.

I think I‘m drawn to graphic novels because of the creative way artists depict certain concepts, like this about compartmentalizing.

Tattooedteacher I love that not only is “boys” roped with caution tape, but it‘s obvious that the cubbie hasn‘t been open in a while... spider web details. Very cool. 4y
