When toddler Dineo falls seriously ill, her older siblings set off on the long walk to find their mother, who‘s working in Johannesburg. This was written to help children understand what life under apartheid actually meant, and I‘m sorry to say I learnt so many things from it. I took particular note of the schoolchildren marching in the streets and striking from school as their learning only 👇

rockpools @LibrarianRyan It‘s definitely MG level - it packs a lot of information in but keeps things ultimately hopeful and not-too-grim. Written in 1985. 5y
