Mehso-so

For nostalgia I reread it. Does it hold up to today‘s pc and children‘s literature standards? No, I don‘t think so. It is not a book I‘d recommend to a child but I would likely enjoy discussing it with other adults who have read it.
.
The violence was prevalent and some viewpoints were outdated. Seriously, the villains are making Molatov cocktails? Race riots and murder? A bit much.
.
Have you read it? What is your view? 🤔🧐🙂

And magical is not exactly the right word for it, unless by magic you mean simply something you do not understand. And if that‘s all you mean, why then almost everything is magical.

Anyone else read this as a kid? It‘s a dark tale. Ellen‘s house burns down, her family in it, the day of her birthday, the day she finds a cloth/silver crown. Now after witnessing so much death she‘s on the run to her aunt while a stalker is after her.

readingjedi Yes! And I'd forgotten all about it till now! I loved it! 4y
Moonprismpower @readingjedi I‘d always wanted a cloth crown after this book. I‘m rereading it now because I can‘t recall the ending. I had to buy my own forever copy! 4y

Pickpick

Another book that stayed with me is this novel I read when I was 9yrs old. The Silver Crown is about 10yr old Ellen who finds a silver crown in her room on her 10th birthday. When her house burns down & her family killed, she hitchhikes to her Aunts house, being pursued by shadowy men & finds a castle in a forest with a machine that the silver crown can control. Tempted to become queen, she ends up destroying it instead. #LizsLibraryLoves

Gillyreads I was obsessed with this book in primary school 7y
