Uneven telling of the assassination of Louis, Duke of Orleans, in 1407. The first half tries too hard to be an historical true crime book. It is quite clunky as it goes through witness statements. Plus, the crime is solved halfway through and the “detective“ disappears from the narrative. The second half works though as it focuses on the outcome of the killing as it tore France apart. That's very interesting , but you have to slog for a while.
