3 posts | 3 read | 1 reading | 1 to read
'A remarkable portrayal of a crime investigation in modern, multi-cultural Britain' Paul Finch, author of Ashes to AshesA dead girl.A wall of silence.DI Maya Rahman is running out of time. A headmistress is found strangled in an East London school, her death the result of a brutal and ritualistic act of violence. Found at the scene is a single piece of card, written upon which is an ancient Buddhist precept: I shall abstain from taking the ungiven. At first, DI Maya Rahman can't help but hope this is a tragic but isolated murder. Then, the second body is found. Faced with a community steeped in secrets and prejudice, Maya must untangle the cryptic messages left at the crime scenes to solve the deadly riddle behind the murders - before the killer takes another victim. Turn a Blind Eye is the first book in a brand-new series set in East London and starring DI Maya Rahman.

What a brilliant book. The plot was excellent and kept me guessing all the way through. Very original and I loved how difference and diversity was looked at throughout the book. Definitely add this to the reading pile

I was on the fence with this one. On one hand, it‘s an intriguing plot dealing with difficult subjects such as forced marriages and suicide, on the other it was fairly slow going.

Overall it was an interesting read and I would read a sequel, but it does have its faults. Thanks to Netgalley and publishers, HQ, for the opportunity to review an ARC. 3 ⭐️
