This fantasy story is near and dear to my heart because it was a poem written by my grandmother, Joan Yingling, in the 60s, and then turned into a children‘s book after she passed. It is BRAND NEW! It has only been in stores for a few weeks! This story would be FABULOUS for RA and RT! The story follows “Can‘t” who believes he can‘t do anything right like the “Could”s can. That is until an elf helps him change his mindset! #UCFLAE3414F19
JennaMichelleCohn UDL 1.1 is shown through the color and variety of text. UDL 3.1 is often used when my mother and I read this story at schools because it‘s great to have students think and share about times they felt they couldn‘t do something, then changed their mindset. EL 3 would be great since the story is all about thinking positively and having a positive mindset. EL 5 because vocabulary is very important here with the difference between “can‘t” & “can”. 5y
cassandram I loved reading your post! What a great theme to share with children that even if at times we think we can‘t, we really can. It would be important to clarify the vocabulary so children can distinguish them and truly understanding the theme. Awesome job. 5y
Lrobertson How awesome!! This will be a great book to read to your own students one day! So special. I will have to have this in my class library and tell my students I knew the author's granddaughter :) Your EL strategies and UDLs are great! Connecting the text to students and ways to make them feel more positive and proud about their SMARTS! Great post! 5y
