31 years ago I read a book called Fiskadoro. It bowled me over. Tree of Smoke is one of my lifetime top 10. I am so sad at the loss of Denis Johnson, but I'm so grateful for all the things he poured into my brain.
vivastory A terrible loss. "Already Dead" & "Jesus Son" chanfed my life when i read them 18 years ago. "Fiskadoro" is high on my tbr. 7y
Jess_Read_This I've never read his work... he sounds like an amazing writer. I'm so sorry for the loss. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 That's so weird! Tree of Smoke just came up as a reminder for this weekend for me to read it!! And you were the one to coax me on. Oh, that's sad, but a weird coincidence. My new goal is by end of 2017, I've got too many out of the library. Godspeed, Denis Johnson💫 7y

CherylDeFranceschi @JanuarieTimewalker13 At first I resisted it, as I'm not really one to read about war. But it just took me in, way way in, so viscerally. I'll never forget it. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Yes, I'm sure. Can't remember who actually told me to purchase the book, but I must get to it. It's just that other books entice you away from your TBR sometimes, and I know I own it so I can read it at anytime. Ha! Book dilemmas are always the best problems to have! I love, love that you have recorded all the books you have read. I really wish I had a list of the books I read 31 years ago! 7y
CherylDeFranceschi @JanuarieTimewalker13 It's amazing because I can look back and remember life events that happened when I was reading things. But it can be embarrassing to see my taste from my teens! 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I think it's the coolest thing in the world!! It's funny, imagine being an author and writing something pretty bad early on in life and you have to see it sitting on shelves. That must be far worse! 7y
