Lee and Elaine | Ann Rower
When Ann's childhood friend dies and is buried in the Green River cemetery in the Hamptons favoured by artists, Ann visits Hannah's grave and discovers her neighbours include Elaine de Kooning and Lee Krasner (Lee Pollock). Ann becomes obsessed looking for graves of women artists, mostly wives of more famous men, and plans to write a book about Lee & Elaine who after all those years of marriage to macho art stars come back as ghosts, as lesbian lovers.Elaine's headstone is discovered missing one day and all hell breaks out in Ann's real life. She begins an affair with a woman student which prompts her to leave the man she has lived with for twenty years. She wants to start a new life, in the middle of her life.
