The Reawakening
The Reawakening | Primo Levi
3 posts | 10 read | 1 to read
First published in English in 1965, "The Reawakening" is Primo Levi's bestselling sequel to his classic memoir of the Holocaust, "Survival in Auschwitz." The inspiring story of Levi's liberation from the German death camp in January 1945 by the Red Army, it tells of his strange and eventful journey home to Italy by way of the Soviet Union, Hungary, and Romania. Levi's railway travels take him through bombed-out cities and transit camps, with keen insight he describes the former prisoners and Russian soldiers he encounters along the way. An extraordinary account of faith, hope, and undying courage, "The Reawakening" was praised by Irving Howe as "a remarkable feat of literary craft."

Pickpick

Of course, there‘s no easy way to review this book about Levi‘s long winding road home from Auschwitz, a path that included a summer in the empty plains of what is now Belarus. What struck me is that this isn‘t a sad reflective book. It‘s stories, and they‘re, first, entertaining.

My current book (outside the Litsy group reads) with my mascot of the day (and some of her handiwork on our furniture. 😕)

Levi‘s story of Russian liberation and the long crazy path home after Auschwitz. I thought somehow this would be reflective, which matches my mood now. But actually it‘s about story telling, and all the fantastic characters he‘s around in this kind of quagmire of liberation.

Crazeedi I love your mascot😻 and that happens in many furry friends homes! 5y
