Pickpick

One of the first books I read with a gay central character. Its melancholy story, set in the south, spoke to me as no book ever had. I still revisit it from time to time, recalling that feeling of connection, understanding that helped shape me into the person I am today.

Hobbinol I felt the same way about this book. I'm happy I got a chance to tell him in person how much his work meant to me when he was part of a panel on banned books at a library conference. I loved Winter Birds too. 8y

I have a lot of southern US fiction and most of it is set in gruesomely small towns. It was difficult for me to choose, so I decided to give a shout out to someone who hasn't written any fiction in a while. #setinasmalltown #southerngothic #queerbooks

ValerieAndBooks I really like that turn of phrase "gruesomely small towns" 8y
LeahBergen I haven't heard of this author. Thank you! 8y

shawnmooney That novel sat unread on my bookshelf for years and years and years. I'm not sure if I still have a copy now or not. I will have to finally read it one of these days… :-) 8y
