Missing Joseph
Missing Joseph: An Inspector Lynley Novel: 6 | Elizabeth George
7 posts | 16 read | 4 to read
When Deborah St James hears of the unexpected death of Reverend Sage, her sadness has a very personal tinge. For their paths had crossed some months earlier at a particularly vulnerable time for Deborah, and she had found herself confessing her intimate anguish to this sympathetic stranger. When she realizes that his death is far from accidental, Deborah, with her husband, Simon, enlists the help of Inspector Lynley, and the trio embarks upon an investigation that hinges upon the overriding - and ulimately destructive - power of parental love.

A comfort re-read from years ago. Some of George‘s older books will feel a bit dated because although they seem to be set in the late 80s/early 90s, they often can feel much more dated than that based on the language and mannerisms she gives her main characters. That said I still enjoy the journey of these longer reads (even if I do want to tell Deborah to stop being such an insufferable sulky pants.)

dabbe “insufferable sulky pants“ ... 🤣🤣🤣 Totally agree! 1y

#ScarathlonDailyPrompts #Day21 #Missing This is a very early Inspector Lynley novel, I think the 6th in the series? Deborah & Simon go to see a friend in Lancashire but find he‘s dead when they get there. Unsatisfied with the cause of his death they ask Lynley to investigate. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 6pts

I waited months to read the next installment in the Lynley/Havers mysteries so I could read it in January, and I wasn‘t disappointed. I love George‘s writing immensely, but it‘s the detail and the psychological terrain she traverses that mesmerizes me. A wonderful series, and a terrific book. Not as much Havers in this one though, and she was missed.

First #BookspinBingo read for January.

My #BookSpin list for January! I just finished it a few minutes ago. WHEW. I had to add the book I‘m in the midst of to the 21st slot because it‘s the 2nd already! (How did this HAPPEN?) The final four will probably be free squares this month.

New book journal!

MittenGirlPeach I‘m trying something new this year: two books need to come from my shelves. I generally get most of my books from the library, but of course I receive many as gifts, and those are going unread too often! And of course I‘ve fallen in love with swaps, thus more terrific books that I own. 3y

I had plans to do this readathon, but so far I‘m not making much headway! Regardless, I‘ll see what I can do. My original goal was to finish the tagged book, and read two others to finish out my December BookSpin. But my brother & nephew will be here this afternoon for the first time in two years, so it will be adult beverage and football time when they arrive! They‘re leaving Sunday morning though, so we‘ll see. #20in4 @Andrew65

Andrew65 Good luck, and Happy New Year 😊👍 3y

Thought I would finish this before #24in48, but instead it will be my first book completed of the readathon. George‘s novels are dark, but so cleverly written that I‘ll keep reading the Lynley series. Hope everyone is off to a great reading weekend!
