A girl with a clockwork heart makes every second count. When Penny Farthing nearly died, the brilliant surgeon Calvin Warwick managed to implant a brass Ticker, transforming her into the first of the Augmented! But soon it was discovered that Warwick kidnapped and killed dozens of people striving to perfect another Ticker for Penny. The last day of Warwick s trial, the Farthing factory is bombed, Warwick disappears, and Penny and her brother, Nic, receive a ransom demand for all of their Augmentation notes if they want to see their parents again. Who is trying to stop their work? Or to control it? Or is the motive more sinister? Determined to solve the mystery and reunite their family, the Farthings recruit their closest friends: fiery baker Violet Nesselrode and gentleman-about-town Sebastian Stirling. Unexpectedly leading the charge is Marcus Kingsley, the young army general who has his own reasons for wanting to lift the veil between this world and the next. Wagers are placed, friends are lost, romance stages an ambush, and time is running out for the girl with the clockwork heart."

Mehso-so

2.5⭐ This book had a good premise & lots of spunk, but the overall vibe was both too much and not enough at the same time. The first half was too fast-paced, with no real focus on building relationships between the characters or on the world of Industria. With all the steampunk-y words I guess it' like a Victorian London but with more modern tech. The second half slowed down but it still felt like too much activity with little connection.

TheAromaofBooks Ack, so frustrating when a book has potential but doesn't quite come together!! 5y

I wanted to like this book so, so much but there was just something about it that kept me from liking it. The idea of having mechanical organs in a steampunk setting was right up my ally but ugh... Not a good book.

Pickpick

This was a fun, fast read with a heroine narrator that I liked far better than the last YA fantasy I read. The descriptions of all the steampunk costumes and settings are great, and the "solve the mystery of the missing murderous surgeon" plot went along at a good clip. Was it a perfect or even a very complex book? No, but it was entertaining, and sometimes that's all you need.

This was my #steampunknovel for #PopSugar2017

#Steampunk I think I got this book through Kindle First. I love the cover but the book was only alright. There were several things that bothered me. It felt a bit clunky at times but overall it was fun. #SeasonsReadings2016 @RealLifeReading
